Adventures of a One Month Old

Garrett turned 1 month old on June 12th. Time is flying by and we sure do enjoy having another handsome boy in our family.

On the 13th he started to violently throw up everything he ate. We thought maybe he caught a bug and that we would just see how he was in a couple of days. By day three (Father's Day) he still couldn't hold anything down and was starting to look dehydrated. We took him to the doctor first thing Monday and he was diagnosed with Pyloric stenosis (with an ultrasound confirming at Utah Valley). The fix for this was a trip to Primary Children's Hostipal in SLC where he was admitted Monday night, and had surgery on Tuesday. Despite everything he was going through, Garrett seemed just as mellow as can be. You wouldn't have known anything was wrong with him. Long story short, the surgery went well, and we got to take him home on Wednesday night. He is now back to his healthy eating (and pooping) habits.

Summertime

I think by now we can officially say that summer is here. School is out, the weather is warm, and my grass is nice and green. Lately, all Brevin and Spencer want to do is run through the sprinklers and have a "water party" with all their friends. Maybe this is why my grass is so green. Well, time to go work on my tan.

Garrett - 1 week old

Garrett is here!

Like I mentioned in the last post, a gusty storm along with a cold front hit around 1:30 am the night of May 11th. That seemed to kick Amber's labor into high gear. By 3:30 she was finally able to get me out of bed, saying it was time. A quick call to my parents (sorry for the early wake up call) and we were off. Checked in about 4:00 am and everything from there was smooth sailing. Garrett was born just before 7:00 am on Monday May 12th. He was 7lbs 9oz and 20 inches long. Pretty much a spitting image of his two older brothers when they were born. We're glad he is here safe and sound. Brevin and Spencer sure think he's pretty cool.

Happy Mother's Day

We thought we might be having a baby on Mother's Day because of all the contractions Amber was having throughout the night. As soon as it was time to get up and get ready for church, it was like the labor was put on pause. I guess it was good that Amber could enjoy Mother's Day not being in a hospital bed. It was a beautiful day, and little did we know that the storm that was heading our way later that night would trigger the real deal. Baby was on his way.

Amber, you are awesome. Thanks for all you do for me and for our boys. You are one of a kind, Happy Mother's Day. Kimi ga suki da!

In Loving Memory, Maj. Brad Funk

On May 1st we received the tragic news that Brad and a student pilot were killed in a training exercise while performing a touch and go in their T-38C at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, TX. Both had tried to eject but did not have full deployment of their parachutes. We have not heard yet what might have caused the crash. There has been an enourmous amount of love and support from family, friends, and the people at Sheppard AFB.

There was a memorial service at the base on May 5th. A viewing was held on May 9th in Roy, UT, with the funeral services held the next day. It was great to reflect back on Brad's life and all that he had accomplished in his 35 years. It was evident that family was his biggest priority.
I've included some images from the funeral here.

Brad will be deeply missed, but we know that he is still anxiously engaged in the work on the other side.

Jason is 33

I was given tickets to the Utah Blaze game on the 18th. Greg and Collin, Brad and Parker, and Brevin and I witnessed our first AFL game, with Utah losing for the 8th time this season. They had several mascots from around Utah there for various acts during the timeouts and halftime, and Cosmo got booed by all the idiotic Utah Ute fans. We all cheered for him though.

The next day was my B-day and we celebrated with a trip to Tucanos. Later, Amber and the boys sent me on a Pirate's quest as I had to follow the clues on a treasure map to find all my gifts. Amber continued her tradition of making an awesome cake, which was a treasure chest filled with "gold" (rolos).

Happy Easter

We had a fun easter this year. The boys enjoyed coloring eggs, and they couldn't even wait until they were dry before asking if they could eat one. Enjoy the pics below...

Good Morning "Deer"

We had all just finished eating breakfast on the morning of the 14th, and I was just about to head to work when we noticed these two deer in our backyard. They hopped up the block wall to the neighbor's yard as I grabbed the camera. Brevin and Spencer had fun watching them out the window for about 20 minutes (especially when they had to relieve themselves on the lawn) until the deer strolled away looking for more food. I'm not sure if it was the same day, but shortly after we heard that a member of our ward had spotted a cougar in the neighborhood, probably trying to track down these deer or the many others that have been hanging out in the area all winter. Kinda scary to think that Cosmo's cousin has been roaming in a neighborhood with a ton of kids.
