First Night

On the agenda for New Year's Eve:

*finally get around to watching the Sherlock Holmes film A Game of Shadows which I've had in my possession for months now and haven't even seen,

*get pizza for the children and then have Brevin tend the rest while I go on a date with Jason to Sizzler,

*make sure to take plenty of photographs of everyone posing in their snazzy 2013 glittered glasses,

*let Jason and Brevin watch Mission:Impossible on Netflix and all the others watch The Lorax while I frantically try to finish up a grant application for the PTA that has a deadline of December 31, 2012,

*watch the ball drop in Time Square and give my husband a celebratory kiss on the stroke of midnight,

* go out on the front porch and into the frigid cold to light some sparklers,

* and make a list of resolutions for the coming year 2013.  Nah.  I think we're good!

On the agenda for New Year's Day:

*play in the snow

* and get everyone to bed early!

If I Told You.....

.....that I had made a resolution to make timely posts to update my blog, you'd know I was lying or a complete failure when it comes to resolutions.  Oh, well.  Happy New Year's!

Here's what we did:

We recieved a New Year's Eve kit for a Christmas gift.  It included party horns, glow sticks, and rad glasses.  We tried to wear the glasses while we ate pizza dinner courtesy of Domino's.

And can you believe we all stayed up until midnight?  Well, everyone but Ella.  (I'm sure it was obvious the next day for Garrett's new Primary teachers.  Sorry!)

Here's the whole gang waiting to watch the ball drop through our snazzy glasses:

YIKES!  That picture turned out terrible!  Clearly I have not mastered the hand held portrait technique.  Let's try another:

Umm....that's not much better (and holy cow I have a big head!).  Here, Jason.  You try it:

Okay, I guess it works better if you have long arms and if you place the person with the biggest head farthest away from the camera.

Well, the ball dropped.  We ran outside and blew our party horns, and I shook my head and wondered how 2011 passed so quickly.

For Auld Lang Syne

We filled our final day of 2009 with errands and activities, and just like the past year, we made the most of every minute together. And while we didn't take pictures of the errands (tidying the house, taking down Christmas lights, shopping for medicines and a new calendar, etc...), we did snap a few shots of the activities. And now for your viewing pleasure, I present our New Year's Eve:

Early Morning Sledding
Recent snow storms have created the perfect conditions for a favored past time of our family. We "hit the slopes" early and enjoyed fresh powder and minimal crowds. Brevin invited a friend to come along and join us, and we all had a fantastic time.

A Trip to Tepanyaki

In order to beat the dinner rush, we ate dinner at about 5:00 p.m. Whether I was hungry by that time or not, I was able to easily down a plateful of shrimp, chicken, steak, noodles, and vegetables. This may be the traditional locale for ringing in a new decade. (We were at the same place ten years ago ushering in Y2K, sans children. Remember all the hype and hysteria surrounding that New Year's Eve?)

A Toast to the New Year
After dinner, we came home for a Wii party and to don our totally awesome, handmade glasses. Yes, with our sparkling white grape juice in hand, we exude nothing but sophistication and refinement. Wouldn't you agree?

Happy 2010 everyone!
